PRE-REGISTRATION WITH PAYMENT IS REQUIRED to reserve your space. If a
class fills or a different time is requested, I'll do my best to schedule
another time. Materials for classes are available at 10% off retail price.
Private lessons may be arranged for $10 per 1/2 hour or groups of 3 or
more for $5 per 1/2 hour for each person.
Refund Policy-Refunds will be given with a 48-hour notice. If the class
is canceled by the instructor a refund will be issued

Learn to Knit - If you have never held knitting needles before
this class is for you. In two sessions you will learn to knit, purl, cast
on, bind off, increase, and decrease - even simple cables if time allows.

Beginning Crochet - For true beginners and for those who haven't
"hooked" in years! Knitters branch out and discover the texture
and versatility of crochet. Learn the basic techniques of crochet and
start a simple project. Foundation chain, single crochet, double crochet,
treble stitches, and simple edgings will be covered over three sessions
Materials: H hook or larger; smooth light colored worsted weight wool,
or bulkier wool

Kids Crochet - Enjoy learning simple crochet and making fun projects
such as shoelaces embellished with beads, flower scarf, small bag, hair

Mittens - In this two-session class, you'll learn how to knit
mittens on double-pointed needles. Choose a cuff style (ribbed, two-color,
novelty yarn), a thumb style (straight or gusseted), and a mitten-tip
style (round or pointed). You can also try out a decorative cast-on if
you like, and we'll learn left- and right-leaning increases for a smooth
thumb gusset. Proficiency with basic knitting skills - casting on, the
knit and purl stitches, and decreases - is required.
Materials: 140 yds (bulky) to 180 yds (worsted-weight) yarn; 1 set (4
or 5) double-pointed needles of appropriate size for your yarn, stitch
markers, yarn needle, and pattern (Ann Norling's Basic Mittens on 4 needles)

Socks - Knitting socks is great fun, and it's not as complicated
as it looks. In this three-session class, you'll learn how to knit in
the round on double-pointed needles, how to turn a heel and shape a gusset,
how to shape a toe, and how to do the kitchener stitch (grafting) to finish
up your sock. Proficiency with basic knitting skills - casting on and
the knit and purl stitches - is required.
Materials: 100 yds (baby size) to 300 yds (man's size) of smooth worsted-weight
yarn, light in color; 1 set (4 or 5) of double-pointed needles of appropriate
size for the yarn, yarn needle, and a pattern (Ann Norling's Adult Basic
Socks or Yankee Knitter Designs Classic Socks are both good choices)

Topdown Sweater - Want to knit a sweater? Terrified of sewing
all those pieces together? Want some control over you sweater design?
Then this class is for you. Learn to knit a raglan sweater on circular
needles, beginning at the neck edge. We will guide you through your first
topdown sweater with yarn choice suggestions, gauge, your personal measurements,
texture, and neck and sleeve treatments. This first class (3 hrs) will
be the measuring and planning session. We start knitting in our next class.

Big Felted Bag - Learn how to make the famous felted "buttonhole
handbag"; add fuzz or glitz to it and get tips on felting your future
fuzzy projects.
Materials: 3 skeins Cascade 220
1 skein fluffy yarn (Happy, Happy Multi, or Splash) or railroad ribbon
(Midas, Mega, Cubik, or Eros) or a hairy yarn (Fizz of Fizz Stardust)
if you want to embellish and 24" #15 circular needle. Knitters must

Slip-Slidin'Away - Not going to get that two-handed Fair Isle
knitting technique down this year? ME NEITHER! Let Cynthia show you how
to work colorful slip stitches to enhance your plain knitting - all with
one color at a time. We'll do a sampler of patterns, and have a project
that uses those patterns for you to do at home.
Materials: At least 3 colors of worsted wt. Yarn (leftovers ok), #8 needles,
and basic knit/purl skills

APRIL
New Wave Sachet - Leery of lace? Charts give you a headache? Just
in time for spring and summer, knitting lace is easy! In our class, we'll
learn how to read a simple lace chart, and then work with it to make a
small sachet in a sport-weight yarn.
Materials: 1 ball sportweight wool or wool blend yarn, size 4 or 5 needles,
and basic knitting skills (must have done yarnovers)

Meet the Designer Workshop Series
|
I feel fortunate to be able to offer classes from nationally acclaimed
instructors, authors, and designers. Each has a unique style of teaching
and a wealth of knowledge to share. All of these teachers have taught
at national knitting conventions and it is a treat to have them in this
small venue. I hope you can take advantage of this opportunity.

Author of Confessions of a Knitting Heretic, editor of the Crochet Calendar,
appeared on the television show "Knitty Gritty", and many designs
have appeared in such magazines as Vogue Knitting
Make the Vogue Knitting Cocoon Shrug
Each student will create a swatch based on the Fall Vogue Knitting 2005
cover sweater (designed by the instructor). In this class students will
use their measurements to determine the correct size of a cocoon sweater
and perfect sleeve placement. The student will work up a swatch utilizing
all the techniques used in creating the VK sweater.
After finishing our swatches, the students will begin on their own sweaters
and we will work on issues as they arise as the students work through
their projects. Students will NOT finish the entire sweater in class.

They have co-authored The Knitting Way,
Knitting Quilted and Mitered Log Cabin Motifs
Explore knitting as a frame that lets your inner artist unfold. This class
guides you through two methods of creating knitted log cabin motifs. -
one a self-quilted, double-knitting technique, and the other a pared-down
mitered technique using two circular needles - and how to use them as
building blocks for your own masterpiece. Discover new ways to look at
odd balls of yarn.
Skills needed: Knit, purl, increase, decrease, pick up, make 1
Materials: 7 colors of sport to worsted wt. partial skeins ( in shades
of dark, darker, darkest and light, lighter, lightest, as well as a center
color which is traditionally red) and a pair of needles and two 24"
circulars to get desired gauge

Iris in the founder of Artyarns, has co-authored Exquisite Little Knits,
authored Modular Knits, and has appeared on "Knitty Gritty".
Learn to knit a rectangular modular shawl continuously without
cutting yarn or picking up stitches. Start with 3 stitches and build a
triangle, then learn to square off the sides and top. Beginners will learn
how to create elongated stitches to emphasize the triangular patterning,
and intermediate students can incorporate lace in their project that runs
in the opposite direction from their triangles. The skills you learn in
this workshop can be applied to various knitted items, particularly scarves
and afghans.
Materials: 3 skein of Artyarns Ultramerino
Experience: Beginners ok, but suitable for knitters at all levels. Must
know how to cast on, knit, purl Will learn how to increase and decrease.
Intermediates will be given lace practice assignment in advance of class

Measure, Modify, and Knit - Saturday, May 20 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Utilize a well-fitting knitted garment from your existing wardrobe to
determine the measurement and shaping you want to incorporate into your
knitting designs or instructions. Learn how and when to apply special
techniques that infuse your exact size and preferences into your future
knitting Fee: $30
Armhole Success - Saturday, May 20 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Learn to modify pattern instructions for better fitting armholes and neat
shoulder seams. Revise pattern instructions to begin fitted sleeves at
the armhole and then work to cuff. The process assures desired sleev length
and voids the common difficulty of matching armhole shaping with sleeve
shaping. Cuff to armhole shaping will also be covered. Fee: $30
Vine Lace Beaded Scarf - Sunday, May 21, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
This no pre-stringing class develops a unique fashion accessory "The
Beaded Scarf". In addition to viewing completed scarf's modeled in
a variety of ways, you will knit critical segments of a mini version of
the provided entire patterns.
